ANNA BIRRINGER
(1866 - 1941)

Grass Fire Burns Fatal to 75-year-old County Woman

Burns which she received when her clothing caught fire while she was working in her garden Wednesday afternoon caused the death of Mrs. Anna Birringer, 75, of Francis Creek, at Holy Family hospital at 8 o'clock this morning.

Mrs. Birringer was burning grass and weeds in the garden at the rear of her home shortly after 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when her clothing was ignited. Employes of the Francis Creek elevator discovered her plight and used a coat to smother the flames but not before she received third degree burns about the body. She was removed to the hospital where her condition was critical throughout the night.

Funeral Saturday
Mrs. Birringer made her home with a son, Frank, in the village of Francis Creek, for the last 23 years, moving there after the death of her husband, Nicholas Birringer. She was born in the town of Gibson, Sept. 20, 1866, and was married to Mr. Birringer July 28, 1888. Her maiden name was Anna Orth. The couple resided on a farm in the town of Kossuth until Mr. Birringer's death.

The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. John Haws of Francis Creek, and Mrs. Peter Grall of Manitowoc route 2; three sons, Matt of Two Rivers route 3, Ed of Hilbert and Frank of Francis Creek; one step-son, Nick, of the town of Kossuth, six brothers, John Orth of Menasha, Henry of Minneapolis, Nick, George, Matt and Ed of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. John Mosuch of Manitowoc, Mrs. Thomas Walbrun of Menasha, Mrs. Conrad Netzhammer of Milwaukee and Mrs. Frances Guenzel of Shawano; 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the funeral home and at 2 o'clock at St. Ann's church at Francis Creek with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Rauch will officiate.
