American Author, Motivational Speaker and Philanthropist. Dyer began his career as a guidance counselor at a Detroit high school and went on to write one of the best-selling books of all time. He ran a successful private therapy practice and was giving motivational and self-help lectures at St. John's University, where he was a professor, when a literary agent persuaded him to package his ideas in book form, resulting in his first book, 'Your Erroneous Zones', in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he quit his teaching job and began a publicity tour across the country, making bookstore appearances and media interviews After 'Your Erroneous Zones', which eventually sold more than 35 million copies, dozens more books would follow, including 'Pulling Your Own Strings', 'Your Sacred Self', 'Change Your Thoughts-Change Your Life', 'Everyday Wisdom for Success', 'The Incredible Force', 'The Power of Intention' and '10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace'. Along with Kristina Tracy, he co-authored several children's books, among them 'Incredible You!', 'No Excuses!' and 'Unstoppable Me!'. Dyer appeared regularly on national television talk shows, including 'The Merv Griffin Show', 'The Tonight Show' and 'The Phil Donahue Show'. The Pixar animated short film, 'Day & Night', based on one of his lectures, with Dyer as the voice in the film, was nominated for the Best Animated Short Film at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Dyer was a million-dollar donor to Detroit's Wayne State University, establishing a scholarship fund at the college where he earned three degrees, including a doctorate in counseling, and helped raise more than $100 million for public broadcasting, including the city's public broadcasting station, with motivational specials that ran for years. Dyer, who was diagnosed with leukemia several years ago, died after suffering a heart attack.
