Jean grew up near Ione and graduated from Platteville High School in 1944. After she and Delbert were married in September 1944, they lived north of Ft. Lupton on the family farm, where they raised their two children. Jean worked at Ft. Lupton Canning Company in the office factory. She also worked for JC Penny in Brighton until it closed. She enjoyed playing piano, sewing clothes and quilts, oil painting, and knitting, crochet, and embroidery work.

Survivors included: son Mike (Marilyn) Bangert; daughter Paulette (Danny) Evans; sister Erline Hogan; grandchildren Dave (Lisa) Evans, John (Tawyna) Bangert, Jerry (Brittany) Bangert, Joline (Ross) Manternach, Candice (Domnick) Evans-Casias; and great-grandchildren Ashly, Robby and Tea Evans, Owen, Logan and Emma Bangert, Caden, Caleb and Boston Bangert, Ella and Emery Manternach, Damon and Autumn Casias. Preceding were: brothers George and Robert Penfold; sisters-in-law Earlene Penfold and Dorothy Johnson; brother-in-law Carl Johnson and grandson Jim Bangert. Funeral Services held October 21 at Ft. Lupton United Methodist Church. Contributions made to Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 455 Sherman Street, #500, Denver 80203. Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
