BERNICE M. HASSEMER
(1918 - 2013)

Bernice M. Hassemer age 94, of Francis Creek, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Saturday evening, February 2, 2013 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. 

The former Bernice Muench was born on April 24, 1918 in Francis Creek, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Hessel) Muench. On October 19, 1940 Bernice was married to William J. Hassemer. The couple owned and operated Hassemer's General Store and Tavern in Francis Creek for 27 years. William preceded Bernice in death on October 12, 1987. 

Bernice loved life and was very strong in her faith. She loved to needle point, read books and attend church functions in the area. She was a life long member of St. Anne Catholic Church and St. Anne Altar Society. She enjoyed attending meetings of St. Anne Altar Society until her health declined. On August 4, 2012 she became a great grandmother with the birth of Sean Patrick Mooney. Bernice beamed and smiled while holding him on the day he was born. She was also a member of the Catholic Knights Branch #86 of Francis Creek.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Joy Lynn (Myron) Mleziva, Francis Creek; two grandchildren: Steve (Shari) Mleziva, Belvidere, IL; Dena (Michael) Mooney, Green Bay; two great grandchildren: Sean Mooney and Anson Lindsey; one special niece: Rozanne Muench, Francis Creek; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Margaret Muench; her husband: William J. Hassemer; one brother: Gerald Muench; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Margaret Muench and Bernette (Paul) Wachholz. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. The Rev. John Becker will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville is assisting the Hassemer family with funeral arrangements.
