George Albert Houck
Funeral for George Albert Houck, 308 N. E. 68th avenue, will be at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at A. J. Rose funeral chapel. Interment will be private. Mr. Houck died Friday at Physicians and Surgeons hospital. He was born July 18, 1883, in Prosper, Minn. He attended University of Minnesota and played baseball. He came to Portland in 1905 with the team, liked it here, and in 1907 moved here with his family. Mr. Houck and his father went into the plaster contracting business. He later joined the staff of the Prudential Life Insurance company.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows and was past grand of Villa lodge No. 124. In 1951 he was elected grand patriarch of the jurisdiction of Oregon and during his term of office instituted the first ladies auxiliary of the encampment of this state.
He was also active in the work of the grand lodge and was chairman of the grand lodge special committee of the Odd Fellows home at the time of his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bonnita Ketrenos, Portland; a brother, Byran [sic] Houck, Aptos, Cal., two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Hanson and Dott Freeman, both of San Francisco, and four grandchildren.
