"Anderson Fields was the ancestor of a large branch of the Fields family of Northeastern Kentucky. The weight of authority and family tradition is that he was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1795; m. Elizabeth Manis in that State about 1818; went to East Tennessee where a majority of his children were born; and came to Carter County, Kentucky, about 1840."

Excerpted from the book "Early Families of Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky" by William Carlos Kozee.

Anderson was also the father of the children of Cassandra Banks, Martha Jane, William Henry, Lansford and John Riley Banks, each of whom was born in Letcher County, Kentucky. Anderson and Cassandra were never married.

Lansford Banks documents this relationship in an affidavit filed with his Civil War Pension Application written August 30, 1881. DNA testing also has documented the connection.
