Funeral services for Mr. Robert L. Beard, 94, will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from the New Bethel Jesus Name Church. The Reverends Gary Robinson, David Clark, Bobby Lambert, Larry Reed, and Darryl Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the New Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Beard, a resident of Jayess, Mississippi, passed away at the Lane Medical Center in Zachary, Louisiana on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. He was born March 25, 1922 in Jayess, Mississippi to the late Webbie and Hattie Lee Morgan Beard.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Annette Burnett Beard; one son, Gilbert Beard; one step-granddaughter, Sumer Miles; and brothers, Ford and James Beard.

He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of New Bethel Jesus Name Church. He loved gardening, woodworking, hunting, and fishing and enjoyed “teasing” people.

Mr. Beard was also a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and was adwarded the Purple Heart for his bravery in action.

Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Mary Boudreaux Beard; two sons Robert (Linda) Beard, Jr, and Keith (Ellen) Beard; one daughter Joy (Darryl) Harris; step-daughters Angela Smirnow, Nanita (Mourad) Chahine, Ada (Mike) Fife, Cheryl (Bobby) Miles, and Loretta (Bill) Stewart; twelve grandchildren; eleven step-grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Devin Miles, Darren Beard, Kevin Beard, Jon Beard, Josh Beard, and L.D. Harris.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dathan Harris, David Steward, and Mike Fife.

Visitation will be at New Bethel Jesus Name Church on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5 till 9 P.M. and on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 10 until service time at 11 A.M.
