Sherman Aften Carroll, died June 18, 2006, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains at the age of 71. He was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Myrtle, MO, son of the late Earl Thomas and Gola (Ary) Carroll.
He was united in marriage Oct. 20, 1957, in Thayer, MO, to Vanetta Newsom.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving for four years during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as an agent for Frisco Railroad for many years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Plains.
Survivors include his wife, Vanetta of the home in West Plains, MO; two sons, Sherman Douglas Carroll and wife, Christina of Ozark, MO; and Kirk Howard Carroll and wife, Pearlie of Parker, CO; one daughter, April Faith Mayfield and husband, Marty of West Plains, MO; three grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Alice Newsom Potter of West Plains, MO; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Earl Glenn Carroll.
Funeral services were June 22 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with burial in the Thayer Cemetery. Rev. David Case officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Active pallbearers were Marty Mayfield, Bruce Newsom, B.J. Williams, Paul Wooldridge, Donnie Springfield, Leroy Mills, Tim Brown and Howard Steen.
