James B. Arbogast, 87, a resident of Valley Bend, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday Feb.8, 1971 in the Convalescent Hospital in Elkins leaving a total of 287 survivors.
Survivors include his wife, six daughters, seven sons, four step-sons, four step-daughters, one half-sister, five brothers, four half-brothers, 83 grandchildren, 164 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was born Sept.29, 1883 in Valley Head, a son of the late George Washington and Sophie Simmons Arbogast.
He was married to Nancy Jane Channell Arbogast who died Dec. 15, 1955. On Sept. 20, 1956, he married Jessie Johnson Arbogast who resides at Valley Bend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Jess (Emma) Welch of Beverly, Mrs.Frank (Mary) Snyder and Mrs. Norma (Pearl Hammrick, both of Valley Head, Mrs.Wert (Mabel)Welch of Norton, Mrs. Lawrence (Ocie)VanDozer of Mill Creek, Mrs. Perch (Pearl) Hammrick of Buckhannon; seven sons, Glen O. of Elkins, Roscoe E. of Wilmington, Del, Ray V of Huttonsville, Allen P. of Beverly, Jewell O. of Lynn, Mass., Dail L. of Old Bridge, N.J., Willie D. of Pierson, Mich.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Zella Elza of Cass., Mrs.Alta M. Coffey of Richmond, Va., Mrs.Bernice Arbogast of Elkins, Mrs. Opal Lambert of Mill Creek; four step-sons, Robert Swiger of Richmond, Va., Arch Collins of Huttonsville, Richard and Bruce Collins both of Elkins and one half-sister Mrs.Arthur (Edna) Gould of Valley Head,; five brothers, Rover of Cass, Harlie, Walter, Amos, Kiffer, all of Valley Head,; two half-brothers, Wesley and Dwight Arbogast both of Valley Head.; 83 grandchildren, 164 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. preceding him in death were one daughter, two sisters and one brother.
