He was the son of Captain Frantz Wilhelm Roth & Johanna Kepner. He married Catherine Haas about 1805. They had about thirteen children: John; Rebecca; Harriet; Samuel; Sara; Henry; Mary Ellen; Martin; Catherine Hannah; Johannus or John; Jacob; Franklin Lawrence; and Daniel. The family settled in Pekin in 1836. Many of their children died in childhood.
