Galen was the first of eleven children born to William Harvey and Cload (Whitebread) Cummings. His family moved to Colorado in 1920.
He married Dora A. Bresser on September 5, 1923. To this union were born four children; a daughter, Doris, and three sons, Clifford, Everett and Edwin.
Galen was in the general contracting business in Colorado Springs for 35 years. He was a member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, the Jimmy Camp Sportsman Club and the Woodmen of the World.
He was preceded in death by his son Clifford. He is survived by his wife, Dora; two sons Everett and Edwin; a daughter, Doris Schmits; four brothers, Cecil, Ray, Edgar, and Delbert; four sisters, Eva Roberts, Gladys Miller, Marie Breitling and Eulavee Taylor. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
