Mrs. D.M. Pyburn, 89-year-old Pioneer, Dies at Home Here
Mrs. D.M. Pyburn, 89-year-old North Louisiana pioneer, died at her home on University Blvd. here about 10:30 o'clock last night following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon from the First Baptist Church. The pastor, Rev. C. Avery Lee, will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Darby Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Pyburn was born December 16, 1867 in Old Vernon and graduated in 1884 from Vernon High School, the first high school in Louisiana. She attended Mt. Lebanon school from 1886 through 1889, but transferred to the Normal School, forerunner of Northwestern State College at Natchitoches, from which she graduated.
She then taught school in Gansville, where she was married to D.M. Pyburn on November 10, 1892.In March 1901 Mrs. Pyburn moved with her family to Dodson, La. where they lived until January 1925, when they moved to Ruston.
She is survived by three daughters, Miss Neta Pyburn of Tallahassee, Fla., Miss Helen Pyburn of Hammond, La., and Miss Mary Sue Pyburn of Baton Rouge; four sons, D.L. Pyburn of Baton Rouge, Dwight Pyburn of Shreveport, Keith Pyburn of Washington, D.C., and Hiram Pyburn of Ruston; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
