HIGH POINT, N.C. – Andrew Zarick, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 5 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Mr. Zarick was born Jan. 17, 1924 in Duncott, Pa., son of Anastazy and Mary Mateyko Zarick. He has lived in High Point since 1992.
He lived most of his life in Warren, where he was a barber for 25 years, then was a real estate agent and later owned and operated a business selling homemade ice cream.
He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren. A WWII veteran, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Zarick in 2003.
He is survived by his wife at home, the former Antoinette Paletta, whom he married May 3, 1952; his children, Mary Jean Penaranda and husband Frederick of Orlando, Fla., Dr. Andrew Zarick Jr. and wife Debra of Walkersville, Md., and Dr. James Zarick and wife Linda of High Point; a brother, Joseph Zarick of Warren; and seven grandchildren, Steve Zarick, Amy Zarick, Lisa Zarick, Nancy Penaranda, Jacob Zarick, Norma Penaranda and Julian Penaranda.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Johnson Street at Skeet Club Road in High Point at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17.
Inurnment will be at the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the many doctors and their staffs for the excellent care provided, especially Sandi in the intensive care unit of Moses Cone.
