Better known as ROSCOE ROBERT STERN

Son of Agnes "Aggie" Jane (nee McCORD) ENLOE and Leonard Asahel ENLOE. Roscoe had an older brother, Clement Enoch ENLOE (1889 - 1962). Various U.S. Census's indicate that Clement Enloe remained with his biological father, Leonard A. Enloe, while Roscoe went with his mother, Agnes, when the couple broke up sometime after Roscoe's birth, but BEFORE 1898. [Clement Enoch Enloe is listed living with his father and paternal grandparents, John Thomas Enloe and Eliza Enloe, in the Wisconsin 1905 census and then, according to the 1900 and 1910 U.S. Census, Clement was residing with just his paternal grandparents, John Thomas Enloe, and Eliza Enloe.]

Roscoe and his mother, Agnes, first moved to New York where she apparently met and married Walter Adolf STERN, her 2nd husband. The couple had two sons: George Adolph STERN and Leo E. STERN (Half-brothers of Roscoe and Clement.) After the birth of these 2 sons, the family of five moved to New Jersey. Agnes is listed as "widowed" in the 1910 U.S. Census.

Apparently by 1900, Roscoe (or his mother when referencing Roscoe) began using the surname STERN instead of his birth surname ENLOE - the family has no idea when nor why his last name was changed to STERN and his brother, Clement's surname remained ENLOE. Perhaps, he was 'adopted' by his step-father, Walter Adolph STERN (Agnes' 2nd husband).

Agnes McCord-Enloe-Stern lastly married Thomas Scott NICHOL after 1910 and used that surname until her death in 1958.

Roscoe moved to the Chicago area around 1915. First wife was Olive Irene FRANTZ, daughter of Edwin Colfax FRANTZ and Mary Magdalene "Lena" (nee Herring) FRANTZ. They had 2 sons, Robert Edwin STERN (1918-1926) and Gerald Howard STERN (1921 - 2014). Roscoe and Irene were divorced by 1926. His second marriage was to Dorothy (nee WOOD) RUTHERFORD before 1930. They, also, divorced. Family lore states that he remarried at least one additional time, but we have no name. He was a paint salesman for most of his adult life and was considered, by most that knew him best, as handsome, charming and somewhat of a "rascal".

Upon his death, he was cremated and was interred in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. Cause of Death: Colon-rectal cancer.
