EAST CORINTH- Irving S. Speed, 92, widower of Addie Guptill Speed, died Jan. 31, 1978, at his residence after a long illness. He was born Feb. 25, 1885, in Bradford, son of James and Luella Horne Speed. He was a member of the East Corinth United Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for about 30 years. He had been an employee of the state highway commission, retiring in 1956, and he operated Speed's Fruit and Vegetable Stand until 1971. As Corinth's oldest citizen, he was the holder of the Boston Post Cane. He is survived by a son, Paul, of South Portland; two daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Greatorex and Miss Lorna Speed, both of East Corinth; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Craig of Brewer and Mrs. Mabel Cross of Foxboro, Mass., seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the East Corinth United Baptist Church with the Rev. Leo Locke Jr. officiating. Spring burial will be in Corinthian Cemetery, East Corinth. Friends may call at the Thompson Funeral Home, East Corinth, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
