Pete Bowers. 80. of Gower, Mo. passed away. Tuesday, August 18.1998 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. He was born on October 28, 1917, to Moses and Minnie (Pirch) Bowers in Holt, Mo. and later graduated from Lathrop High School where he starred in football. Pete the served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II with the lst Army 6th Division throughout Hawaii, New Guinea and the Philippines as a Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the bronze star for bravery in action and his division was one of the first to engage in the combat at the Battle of Luzon.
On March 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Beverly Moxley in Gower, Mo. After their marriage they lived in Gower where they made their home.
Pete had been in the grocery business most of his life. He owned and operated Bowers Grocery Store in Gower, worked for Sunshine Biscuits, Skinner Macaroni Company and later for Affiliated Foods in St. Joseph, Mo., retiring in 1987.
Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gower for over fifty years, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member and past master of the Gower Masonic Lodge AF & AM #397. and the
American Legion Post #393 of Gower.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, Raymond and William Bowers and one sister, Etta Wilson.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, of the home, three sons, Phillip L. of Lee's Summit, Mo., Ronald R., Mesquite, Texas and Donald R., Dallas, Texas, one daughter, Kathy J. Rawlings, Rockville.Md. Seven grandchildren, Charissa English, Aaron Bowers, Ryan Rawlings, Megan Kniffen, Chainy Rawlings Zachary and Lindsay Bowers, one great-grandchild, Michael Kniffen, two brothers. Deacon and Walt, both of Lathrop and two sisters, Velma Culver, Lathrop, Mo. and Gertrude Clute, Lee's Summit.
Services were held Friday, August 21 at the First Baptist Church of Gower. Burial at Allen Cemetery, Gower, Mo. with American Legion Flag Folding under the direction of the Gower American Legion Post #393. The family suggest donations to the First Baptist Church of Gower. Hixson-Klein Funeral home, Gower, was in charge of arrangements.
