Funeral Set For War Hero

Funeral for lst Lt. A.V. Hendricks, Jr., former Abilenian who was killed in the invasion of France on June 7, 1944, will be held in Memphis at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24.

Lieutenant Hendricks was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. A.V. Hendricks who now live in Estelline. He spent 13 months overseas with the 116th Infantry of the 29th Division. He entered service in 1942 and trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., and Fort Banning [sic], Ga., where he was commissioned.

Born at Lamesa, Dec. 12, 1918, Lieutenant Hendricks was graduated from McMurry College in 1940, returning in 1941 to manage the McMurry bookstore.

He is survived by the parents; a brother, J.H. Hendricks, 702 Palm; and two sisters, Mrs. Gordon Gilliam of Memphis and Mrs. J.B. Phipps, Jr., of Fort Worth.
