She was a graduate of Stevens High School in the Class of 1937 and graduated from Keene State College in 1941 with a Batchelor of Education Degree.
Mrs. Franklin retired in June of 1981 from the Claremont School System where she taught elementary school, first at Bluff in kindergarten and later at Way School in first grade for thirty-one years.
Mary was an active member of her community, participation as a member of the NH Retired Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers of Sullivan County, the Ladies Union Aide Society, the First United Methodist Church, was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for more than sixty years, was a checker for Ward I and provided escort service for the Bloodmobile. Mary loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She loved to knit and sew. She loved flowers and took great pride in her peonies. She loved to read and valued education above all else. She loved to travel and took many wonderful trips, especially when she retired from teaching. Mary took great pleasure in her life in Claremont and in her family.
She was the widow of Llewellyn E. Franklin whom she married on December 18, 1943 in San Diego, CA and he died July 8, 1990. Mary and "Pudge" shared more than 46 years of love and companionship.
The surviving family includes two sons, Thomas Llewellyn Franklin and his wife, Susan of Wilder, VT and John Russell Franklin and his wife, Janet of Celebration, FL; one daughter, Sue Ellen Franklin-Lesniak and her husband, Kenneth of Brookline; her grandchildren, Kevin Franklin and his wife, Jelena of Westford, MA and Matthew Franklin of Claremont; one step-granddaughter, Jenna Laware of Wiscasset, ME; her great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nicholas Franklin of Westford, MA; one sister, Margaret Helliwell Wilson of Riverside, CA also five nephews living in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
Interment will be in Mtn View Cemetery.
