Mrs. Gwendolyn Kearse Polk, of Hampton, the widow of the late William E. Polk, departed this life on the evening May 8, 2002, in Beaufort, after an extended illness.

Born October 11, 1922 in Hampton County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Kearse and Maggie Bishop Kearse.

Mrs. Polk was a homemaker and was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church in Crocketville.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William Gerald and Caryl C. Polk of Hampton; one sister, Lucille K. Hiers of Columbia; two grandchildren, Sheryl P. Wilson of Simpsonville and W.G. (Jerry) Polk of Walterboro; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Paige Wilson, Andrew Michael Wilson, Ashlyn Kate Polk and Brandon Tyler Polk.

She was predeceased by one brother, Warren Kearse.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Harmony Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Carolyn Matthews with burial following in the Crocketville Cemetery.
