Velma "Tootsie" Layman Handy, 84 of Landmark Drive, Stuart, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center. She was born on November 30, 1925 in Dickerson County, Virginia to the late John and Lizzie Ramsey Layman. She was married to the late Noel Jasper Handy. She was preceded in death by four sisters; Glenna Jones, Hazel Carter, Lorene Bryant and Georgie Lawson; two brothers, Albert Layman and Edgar Layman. She worked for many years in the furniture industry and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her daughter; Shirlene Layman of Stuart; three sons; Leon D. Handy Patrick Springs, Larry K. Handy of Patrick Springs and Ricky Handy of Walnut Cove, NC. Eight grandchildren; Daren Layman, Tracy Layman, Betsy Layman, Lisa Nowlin, Amy Helms, Stephanie Burton, Justin Handy and Bradley Handy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 2: 00 PM, April 28, 2010 at Norris Funeral Services Chapel, Stuart . The Rev. Jim Churchwell will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 – 2 PM at the funeral home and other times at the home of the her daughter, Shirlene Layman, 235 S. Fork Loop, Stuart, Virginia. Burial will be in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery fund, 1021 Providence Dr., Patrick Springs, VA 21433.

The family is being served by Norris Funeral Services Inc and Crematory, Stuart.
