Obadiah Davisson was born in Pleasant township, Clark county, Ohio, where his parents lived for a couple years after marriage before settling on their home place east of South Charleston, Ohio.

It is believed he attended Lane Seminary in Cincinnati during the abolitionist controversy there.

Obadiah farmed, and taught, and moved his family west in the mid 1850s.

Obadiah was a teacher at Baldwin College for a time.

In later life he moved near his brother James Gatch Davisson, settling in Neosho, Missouri, where he married the widowed Mrs. Mary Robinson.
