Louis was the fourth of six children born to Christian George Pape, Sr. and Mary Catherine Vonderhaar Pape. On 03 Sep 1938 he married Dorothy Mae Harp and they had four children: Martha, Mary, Louis, and Linda. Early in his life he worked as a stockman for a mortar company. Later he worked as a claims adjuster for Bob Hook Chevrolet; he retired after 35 years of employment there.
