Pvt. William Desmond Listed Missing in Action.
John Desmond, of Washington, D. C., a former well known resident of Bradford, last night received word that his brother, Pfc. William Desmond, of Sherman street, this city, is listed by the War Department as missing in action in France as of Jan. 17.
Pfc. Desmond has been a member of the armed forces for the past three years, being drafted out of Bradford.

Pvt. W. P. Desmond Officially Listed as Killed in Action.
Official notification on the death of Pvt. William P. Desmond in action in France has been received by John G. Desmond of Washington, D. C. The Desmond family formerly resided in Bradford.
Maj. Gen. Edward E. Witsell, acting for the Adjutant General of the Army, has written Mr. Desmond as follows:
"An officer report has not been received that he (Pvt. William P. Desmond) was killed in action in France on 17 January 1945...
Data has now been assembled by the military authorities which reveals information concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of your brother. It is revealed that on 17 January 1945 his organization the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion, launched an attack from La Breymuhi, France. Private Desmond was in a group of men from Company C who were able to go forward in the attack. Enemy fire was very strong, consisting of small arms, automatic weapons, mortar, artillery and direct tank fire. Your brother did not survive this attack."
