He was born December 5, 1897, at Spraggs, a son of Mrs. Rosie Phillips Cole, of Cleveland, Ohio, and the late William Henry Cole.
All of his life was spent in the Spraggs community. He was an active member of the Spraggs Methodist Church, I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 469, of Waynesburg, and the Dunkard Valley Gun Club.
Mr. Cole was one of the best known residents of southern Greene County. His ancestors were descended from the earliest resident of that community.
He was the owner and operator of one of the largest fleets of privately owned school buses in this section of the state. His fleet had gorwn gradually from one initial bus and now covers a score or more of the routes in various sections of the county.
He was a hunting and fishing enthusiast, and was a member of one of the first groups of big game hunters from Greene County to hunt in Potter and other northern tier counties.
He was active in all community affairs in the Spraggs community for many years.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Martha Cain Cole; one daughter, Ruth, wife of Robert Wisecarver, of Westminster, Calif,; two sons, Paul Cole, of Odessa, Texas, and Lloyd Cole, of Blacksville, W. Va.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. William (Mary) McClelland, of Cleveland, Ohio, and six grandchildren.
One son, Ross Allen Cole, is deceased.
