TISHOMINGO - Willard Tucker Morgan, 82, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. He was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Blockton, Ala., to Jesse Monroe Morgan and Neela Suggs Morgan. He moved at the age of 2 with his family to Mississippi where he lived until going to Richton to the C. C. Camp. After being discharged from CCC, he moved to Tishomingo. He married Christine Deaton on June 28, 1942, in Tishomingo. He joined the U. S. Air Force in November 1942. He was in the 456th Bomb Group, flying in a B-24 as an aerial engineer and gunner. He was stationed in Italy and flew 50 bombing missions over Normandy, Germany, France, Air Combat Balkans and Romanian oil fields. He returned to the U. S. and was stationed as an instructor at Keesler Field in Biloxi. He was honorably discharged in September 1945. He finished high school at Tishomingo, attended Mississippi State University for two years, then graduated from Louisiana State University as a forester. He worked with the Mississippi State Forestry Commission for a few years in south Mississippi, then at Richton Tie & Timber Company in Richton. In 1956 he started working for TVA. He retired from TVA as a forester in 1984 and lived in Florence, Ala., until moving to Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka in January 2003. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he lived and died a hero to his family and country.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont with Dr. Gary Glazier and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 61 1/2 years, Christine; two sons, Sam Morgan and wife, Linda, of Tupelo and Danny Morgan and wife, Janet, of Decatur, Ala.; a brother, Woodrow "Bunk" Morgan; a sister, Irene "Babe" Cornelius; two grandsons, Samuel Monroe Morgan II of Asheville, N. C., and Cooper Deaton Morgan of Oxford; a granddaughter, Anna Kathryn Morgan of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
