Michael Leo Hackler, 56, Gray, TN passed away Friday, February 20, 2009 in Illinois in an automobile accident.

Mr. Hackler was born in Sullivan County, TN on November 28, 1952 to Ella Sue Newton Hackler and the late Leo H. Hackler.

Mike graduated from Gate City High School in 1971. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. After basic training in Orlando, FL he served at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, IL. He served as a manager of various stores in the Tri Cities area. NASCAR and the outdoors were an important part of his life. He loved his wife and her family as his own. He also had a deep love for his parents, children, grandchildren, sister, and nieces and nephews.

His father, Leo H. Hackler preceded him in death on February 7, 2009. Surviving is his wife, Sherry Long Hackler, Gray, TN, sons, Neil Hackler, Sulfpher Springs, TN and Cody Lopez, Dry Ridge, KY, daughters, Angie Johnson and husband, Robert, Greeneville, TN and Gabrielle B. Lopez, Gray, TN, mother, Sue Hackler, Gate City, VA, grandchildren, Haley Williams, Bryson Johnson and step grandchildren, Katelin Johnson and Tiffany Johnson, sister, Teresa Head and husband, Terry, Gray, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home and any time at the residence and the residence of his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Howell Hackler and Roy Newton officiating. Judy McConnell will provide the music.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by members of the American Legion Hammond Post 3 of Kingsport and #265 of Gate City, VA.

Neil Hackler, Cody Lopez, Robert Johnson, Terry Head, Brandon Head, Cody Presley, Tracy Landt, Kevin Long and Lance Edwards will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

Special love is expressed by Sherry and the family to Tracy and Natalie Landt and their children.
