During the years when she worked outside the home, she worked as a bookkeeper for Milo H. Walz and Busch's Florist & Greenhouse, and she worked as a secretary for Household Finance Company. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and served as a Cub Scouts Den Mother and as a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed league bowling, fishing, camping, and was an avid Cardinals fan.
She was survived by her husband; by one son; by three daughters; by three brothers, Harold Volkmer, Paul Volkmer, and Robert Volkmer; and by three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard "Dick" Volkmer.
