RAYMOND G. KASTEN

Raymond G. Kasten, age 90, a Manitowoc resident, formerly of the town of
Newton, died on Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2008, at his residence.
Raymond was born on Oct. 8, 1918, in Maribel, son of the late Albert and
Emilia (Kohn) Kasten. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during
World War II. On April 11, 1944, he married the former Sylvia Wehausen at
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Raymond owned and operated a dairy
farm in the town of Newton. At the same time, he was employed by Quality
Service Oil Company and Lake Park Oil Incorporated. He also worked as a
custodian for the Valders Public School System for 10 years, retiring in 1982.
Ray loved fishing and playing Sheepshead. A special treat for his grandchildren
and great-grandchildren was when he played his harmonica.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law: Beata (Walter)
Gauger; Clara (Raymond) Ihlenfeld; and Ruth (Ewald) Duescher; three brothers
and two sisters-in-law: Herbert (Norma) Kasten, Fred (Melvina) Kasten, and
Paul Kasten; three brothers-in-law: Reuben Wehausen; Roy Wehausen; and
John Weyer; and two sisters-in-law: Ruth Kasten and Lois Jean Wehausen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Trinity
Evangelical Lutheran Church, town of Liberty. Officiating at the service will be
the Rev. Gregory Pope, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at Trinity Evangelical
Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or Manitowoc
Lutheran High School.
The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Valders,
is assisting the Kasten family with funeral arrangements.
