Wife: Lillie May (Valentine) Gay, b.1868, in Minnesota.
Horace Walter Gay was one of six children born to Charles and Rebecca (Burkhart) Gay, Oregon Pioneers. He was born in November, 1864 in Portland, Oregon. By 1870, his parents had moved to Springfield in Lane County, Oregon, where his father worked at the saw mill and also had land valued at $2000, per the 1870 U S Census, taken July 2d, 1870. In 1890, he married Lillie May Valentine (a native of Minnesota, b.1868) in Oregon, then they moved to Washington. By 1910 Horace and Lillie were the parents of five children and were living on a farm near Almota, Whitman Co., Washington, close to Washington/Idaho border. Lillie stated she had given birth to six children and that five were living. [I have not been able to find a census for 1900 which gives birth dates and other information]. By 1920, they had moved to Spokane, Washington where they had purchased a home and Horace was working as a teamster. They had one more child, a daughter, bringing their total number of children up to seven. The six I have found via U S Censuses are: Horace Clare, b.Oct 1896, (memorial #76876623), Carol Walter, b.Aug 1899 (memorial#63432855), Allen N., b.@1902, Elliot Franklin, b.Sept 1904 (memorial #63552848), Kathleen, b.@1908, and Valentine, a daughter, b.@1911. Horace died July 21st, 1937 in Spokane, Washington and was buried at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Lillie passed away on July 24th, 1952 at the age of 83 yrs., having never remarried. I would assume she is buried with or near her husband and may be in an unmarked grave.

Horace Gay's mother, Rebecca Ann (Burkhart) Gay, was the younger sister of my great, great grandfather, Leander Columbus Burkhart.
