Francis Emily Roberts was born October 7, 1845 in Ohio, the youngest of two daughters of John ROBERTS and Mary WAGNER. She died April 13, 1929 in Brookings, South Dakota at age 83.

She married July 18, 1861 in Hancock county, Ohio, Mahlon James WARD, the son of William WARD. Mahlon died January 23, 1912 in Georgetown township, Balsam Lake, Polk county, Wisconsin at age 73. His father, William WARD was born in England.

Mahlon and Francis were married for 50 years. Both she and Mahlon were buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brookings, SD. They had 6 sons and a daughter:

* Zophar John Ward died May 25, 1929 at the I.O.O F. home at Dell Rapids, SD at age 66 and was buried in Fairview cemetery, White, SD.

According to Mahlon's obituary, he was a "well known and highly respected resident" of Brookings county, South Dakota. A few months before his death, they had moved to Balsam Lake in the fall of 1911. Francis accompanied her husband's remains back to Brookings, SD where his funeral was held from the home of their daughter, Mrs. Harry (Emily Anne) McKNIGHT.

George Allen WARD lived in of Osseo, Trempleau county, Wisconsin. Orin Orlando WARD died Dec. 25, 1949 in Brookings at age 77. Mrs. McKNIGHT died April 17, 1943 at Brookings Municipal Hospital, Brookings, SD.
