Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company B, 8th New York Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action in 1864 and 1865 at Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. His citation reads "Gallant conduct and services as a scout in connection with capture of the guerrilla Harry Gilmore, and other daring acts."
