MAROA - Gary Allen Underwood, 40, of Maroa passed away 6:10 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) in Lincoln Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Maroa Township Cemetery. Memorials: American Brain Tumor Association. Gary was born Oct. 3, 1961, in Decatur Memorial Hospital, the son of Robert and Charlotte Creekmur Earles Underwood. He graduated from Maroa-Forsyth High School and earned a bachelor's degree in business economics from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston. He was a proud 17-year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 146. Gary had been employed at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and lived in Deltona for five years. In his youth, he had been a Herald & Review paper carrier and participated in Youth League and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid bowler. He won the Decatur city team tournament with his dad and brothers and set a record winning the IBEW National Bowling Singles Tournament in Chicago. He also enjoyed running and competed in Chicago and Twin Cities marathons, running the latter in 3:18. He married Julie Spent on Feb. 5, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nev. Surviving are his wife; daughters, Caylee and Brooklynn of Decatur; sons, Cayden and Gary II of Decatur; daughter, Kristina of Decatur; parents of Maroa; brothers, David and wife Jenny, Rich and wife Candy, Jim and wife April and Kenny, all of Maroa. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Dylan, and uncle, Bob.
