His business expanded and he made several trips overseas attempting to expand his company internationally. With the Great Depression, he suffered enormous losses and was forced to take a job working for an auto company. The last several years of his life, he was institutionalized in Kanakee State Hospital for the Insane, suffering from depression and/or senile dementia. He died there, and was buried in Oak Woods Cemetery.
