Deceased Name: Paul Edward Altig, CPA, civic leader
Hunting Valley – Paul Edward Altig, 67, a certified public accountant and leader in civic organizations, died Saturday at his home in Hunting Valley. He had lung cancer.

Altig was a former managing partner of the Cleveland office of the Price Waterhouse accounting firm before he retired in 1993. He also served as president of the firm's Ohio Valley Group and as president of Beech Brook School in Pepper Pike. He served on the national board of the National Conference, formerly called the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Altig was born in Petersburg, Ill., where he was president of his high school class for four years. He earned a degree in accountancy at the University of Illinois in 1959 and became a certified public accountant. Before he moved to Cleveland, he was managing partner of the Price Waterhouse office in Peoria, Ill. He earlier was assigned to the firm's branch in London, England.

Altig was president of the Greater Cleveland Government Business Program, chairman of the Cleveland Center for Economic Education and trustee of the United Way and Growth Association. He was chairman of INROADS Northeast Ohio, an organization that promotes diversity by preparing talented minorities for business and community leadership.

Altig was on the advisory board for the master's degree program in accounting at Case Western Reserve University and head of the finance committee for the Cleveland Community Building Initiative.

He belonged to The Country Club, Pepper Pike Club and Cleveland Racquet Club.

Altig is survived by his wife, Deloris Anne Stewart; sons, David of Solon and Gregory of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Carrie Keener of Broadview Heights; his mother, Alberta of Athens, Ill.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Garfield Memorial Church, 3650 Lander Road, Pepper Pike.

Memorial donations may be made to Beech Brook, 3737 Lander Road, Pepper Pike 44124. Arrangements are by the Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home of Chagrin Falls.
