Son of Johannes Birnstiel and Anna Catharina Schindhelm, husband of Anna Dorothea Reb and father of:

1) Catharina Barbara Birnstiel, born 14 Dec 1832 in Schierschnitz, Saxe-Meiningen (now Thuringia), Germany; died on the voyage to America in 1855. (NOTE: Schierschnitz is now Neuhaus-Schierschnitz.)
2) Eva Barbara Birnstiel, born 8 Oct 1835 in Schierschnitz; left for America in 1852. Married Kimmel.
3) Johann Georg Friedrich Birnstiel, born 17 Aug 1837 in Schierschnitz and died 28 Jan 1838 in Schierschnitz; (married Catharine Honecker),
4) Johann Eduard Birnstiel, born 3 Dec 1838 in Schierschnitz and died 10 Dec 1838 in Schierschnitz;
5) Johann Heinrich Martin Birnstiel, born 23 Apr 1840 in Schierschnitz; left for America in 1853.

In 1860, George Birnstiel, (shown as Bernsting),aged 52, laborer, and his wife, Margaret, aged 41, were living in East Norwegian, post office Pottsville, PA. Also living in the household were Henry Birnsteil, 20, Edward, 18, an engineer at the mines, Carline, aged 17, and Catherine, aged 3 months.

The Will of George Birnstiel - To Margaret Birnstiel, Administratrix, re of George Birnstiel, late of the town of Butler, in the County of Schuylkill, deceased.
I, Margaret Birnstiel, widow of said deceased, do elect to retain the herein of the mentioned personal property of said deceased; and if the said personal property does not amount to the sum of three hundred dollars, there the remainder out of the real estate of the said deceased; and I further request that both the said personal property and real estate may be appraised and set apart according to law.
