Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Bur, age 79 of Cheboygan passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. She was born July 10, 1930 on Mackinac Island to James "Scotty" and Mary (Harris) McGreevy. On July 10, 1965, Betty married John H. Bur at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinac Island and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2009. Betty attended Marywood School in Evanston, IL and worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Grand Rapids, Escanaba, Petoskey and Lansing. She also worked for Bishop Baraga School. Betty enjoyed sewing and bowling and was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include her three children, James, Jean and Ruth, all of Cheboygan, one brother, John (Caroline) McGreevy of Valley View, Ohio, one sister, Catherine R. McGreevy of Mackinac Island, twin grandsons, Jason and Joseph Percy, her uncle, Joseph Harris of Waltham, Massachusetts, eleven nieces and nephews and her good neighbors, the Weldons.
Besides her husband John, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James McGreevy of Mackinac Island. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville with Rev. Paul Megge officiating.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the care Betty received from and the laughter shared with Debbie Blaisdell, Norma Clymer, Sharon Crocker, Laurie McCreery, Pam McLouth, Susan VanDueren, Evelyn Weiss, Kathleen Lancour and Ronnie Budzinski.
