Fond du Lac Commonwealth Reporter, Wed. Sept. 23, 1959. W.J. Anders Dead at 68; Service Set. Retired City Policeman Dies in Hospital; Rites Will Be in St. Mary's. William J. Anders, 68, of 241 Amory street, an employe of Kiekhaefer corporation and a retired city policeman, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes hospital following a nine-month illness. A member of the Fond du Lac police force from May 21, 1921, until his retirement Mar. 23, 1946. Mr. Anders was born April 12, 1891, at Bakersville, the son of Paul and Mary Britten Anders, and came to Fond du Lac as a young man, having resided here since. Mr. Anders was married at St. Mary's church in this city to Mary May, who died in 1920. On Feb. 18, 1941, he was married in Milwaukee to Marie White who survives him. He was a member of St. Mary's church, the Knights of Columbus, and Eagles. Surviving, besides the widow, are two sons, Roy Anders, Phoenix, Ariz., and Lester Anders, Pontiac, Ill.; a grandchild; two brothers, Herman Anders, of Campbellsport, and George Anders, city; and two sisters, Mrs. George Evans, Van Dyne, and Mrs. Edgar Richards, city. A brother preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Zacherl Funeral home afer 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be there Friday at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Anders who died Tuesday were today at 8:30 a.m. at the Zacherl Funeral home and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church with the Rev. Henry A. Mauer officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Chief James Cahill, Harold Tautges, Patrick Cotter, Gustave Schmitz, Gerald Havey, and Frank Michalack of the city police force. Making up an honor guard were representatives of the Oshkosh police department, the Fond du Lac county sheriff's department, Brown county sheriff's department, Dodge county sheriff's department, city police departments of Neenah and Menasha, and state traffic patrol. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the services were from Phoenix, Ariz., Pontiac, Ill., Oshkosh, Campbellsport, West Bend, and nearby towns.
