Obituary:

Ethel Anderson, 100, of China Spring and formerly of Corsicana, passed away Monday in a Valley Mills nursing home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

Ethel was born at home in 1903 in North Zulch to Issac Augustus and Nettie Colonia (Madded) Andrus. She was the second of 12 children, all instilled with laughter and strong family ties. She married WWI veteran Edwin Albert Anderson, son of Swedish immigrants, of Kane, Pa. Aug. 1, 1925, at Groesbeck. Edwin preceded her in death in 1970. Ethel and Edwin lived in several locations as he followed his career, suffering through the Great Depression era of 1929 through 1941 of financial ups and downs, in the oil fields of Texas and Illinois finally retiring about 1960 from Mount Carmel, Ill., to the only house they ever owned in their 45 years of marriage, on her parents' land on Wintergreen Road in Hutchins.

She beheld the century of progress with enthusiastic wonderment from horse-drawn vehicles to supersonic flight, from outhouses to indoor plumbing, and kerosene lamps to refrigeration.

Almost 60 years passed before there was an adult death in her immediate family when her oldest brother, Walter Bertis died Nov. 3, 1959, in Corsicana; followed by her father, March 11, 1969, and her mother on Jan. 9, 1976; her sister, Cora Leona Dunn Lee, Dec. 10, 1974, in Bossier City, La.; brother, Thomas Norman, Sept. 23, 1986, in Hutchins; brother, Olliver Leonard, June 9, 1990, in Dallas; and her sister, Cleo Christine Olson, Jan. 12, 1993, in Dallas.

Arrangements by Foss Funeral Home, Valley Mills.
