Mrs. Alice B. Austen, for many years a resident of Lacona, passed away January 21, 1956 in Hillcrest Nursing home, Adams. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell. Mrs. Austen was born in Orwell, the daughter of Allen and Rosa Waggoner Bass. She made her home in Orwell until going into the milliner business in Lacona, which she conducted for 26 years. July 30 1912, in Niagara Falls she married Dr. Fred Austen, former Lacona physician,
who passed away August 2, 1928. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Bessie Groat one brother, Samuel R. Bass, Florida; a step-son, Frederick Austen of Lacona. Another sister, Mrs. Anna B Weed, passed away May 19, 1947. Mrs Austen was a member of
the Mother Church, of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Austen had the serenity of
spirit and calm acceptance of life's happenings that accompany a love of nature and the out-of-doors.
