He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late Charles D. and Anna Stenhouse Batson.
He was professor emeritus of Industrial Arts and Technology Education at Fairmont State College, retiring after 16 years. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering in 1948 and a master's degree in education in 1967, both from West Virginia University. He also was the retired owner of Batson Electric and Plumbing in Morgantown, and past state president of the W.Va. Technology Education Association. He was a member of Morgantown Union Lodge No. 4 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He was also a member of Suncrest Kiwanis and attended Suncrest United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II, serving with the Second Marine Division in the South Pacific. He was awarded two Purple Hearts.
He is survived by two sons and spouses, David C. II and Sandra Batson, of Bruceton Mills, and Daniel C. and Susie Batson, of Morgantown; one daughter and spouse, Anna Louise and Carl Lazzell, of San Antonio, Texas; one stepbrother, Lester Fetty, of Tampa, Fla.; one stepsister, Mildred Geppert, of Cumberland, Md.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Peterson Batson, on Aug. 27, 2001.
Friends may call at Dering's Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 11, from 4-7 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 12, from 4-7 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, with Dr. Stacy L. Groscup officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Clarksburg, W.Va.
