ALGER FUNERAL
HELD WEDNESDAY
Custer Nov 16 Funeral services for Mrs Ottilie Alger,71, who died last Friday, were held at the Heidepriem mortuary here Wednesday afternoon burial was in Custer Cemetery and music was furnished by Mr and Mrs Tom Delicate.
Mrs Alger nee Ottilie Henrietta Behren's, was born in Oshkosh Wis,April 10, 1873 to Henry and Emma Petersilia Behrens and moved to Rapid City with her parents in 1879.The came by train as far as it went and then by stage coach to the Black Hills.
In 1895 she was married to Sherman Alger and following her husbands death in 1911, moved to Custer, where she had lived ever since.
She was one of the first graduates of the School of Mines and also attended Hot Springs teachers college before beginning over 20 years teaching in the Hills.
Mrs Alger is survived by seven sons, Sherman, Walter and Clyde of Custer, Edward and Otto of Hermosa, James in California, and Leslie in the US Army, a daughter Emma Limestone; four brothers, Leo and William Behrens of Hermosa, Carl Behrens of Rapid City, and Gus Behrens of Custer and four sisters, Mrs William Underwood of Hill City,Anna, Mrs Frank Sanders of Rapid City, Mrs Frank Heller and Mrs Leonard Keiser of Hermosa.
A son Willard Leroy died in 1936 in Custer.

Ottilie Henrietta Behrens Alger was born in Oshkosh, Winnebago, WI in 1873. She came to Custer, S.D. and married there on Apr 18, 1896 to Sherman Monroe Alger. She lived there her entire married life. Ottilie lived near her children and with her son Sherman Leslie Alger until her death in 1944.
They had seven sons,the only girl died between 1910 and 1911.
On a trip to visit his mother Ottilie's husband Sherman Monroe Alger, took ill and died. He was buried where he died in Welch Cemetery, Marshfield, MO.
