October 16, 1936- Ann Bishop's first beauty parlor was the parlor of her own home where she started doing marcel waving for a few friends and customers fourteen years ago. It was not long before the increased demand for her services made it advisable for her to open a shop and since that time she has enlarged her quarters four times and still has not enough room. Her establishment is located at 128 South Ocean avenue.
Mrs. Bishop received her training from Swedish instructors and she was one of the first persons on Long Island to do permanent waving, and has followed its development ever since. She is also a Parker-Herbox graduate and is proficient in scalp treatments and from time to time has had considerable practical experience in New York in order to learn the latest practices. Her establishment is unique in that it is the only place in Patchogue that specialized in electrolysis.
Mrs. Bishop has trained 16 girls, all of whom are working as beauticians and two of them have shops of their own. She now has four girls working with her and her son is studying to become an expert permanent wave operator. Her shop is light and airy, with a separate room for the drying machines and the entire place is repainted every year.
