Alfred E Blake was born in 1861 in Menlo Park, California at his great aunt's family ranch. His family moved to San Francisco soon afterward. In 1882 he graduated from Cal Berkeley's College of Dentistry. He stayed on after graduation to become a student teacher, later becoming a physician and surgeon. He married and had a daughter and son. In 1900, Alfred became dean of the Dental Department in the Cal Berkeley College of Medicine and Surgery. Shortly thereafter he was divorced and remarried in 1907. Divorce proceedings were delayed and became hotly contested in 1919. Alfred was living in San Francisco when in 1921, he married for a third time at age 60. The couple moved to Menlo Park, where Blake served on the City Council and became Menlo Park's mayor when the city incorporated on December 6th, 1927. Alfred served as a city councilman, and police and fire commissioner for the City of Menlo Park until he died in 1932.
