Mrs. Arrance Dies Tuesday in Jamestown
Mrs. Fred Arrance, Sr., 81, a native of Steamburg, died Tuesday morning, October 30, 1962, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Maring Swart, Jamestown. She had been in poor health for several years.
Mrs. Arrance, the former Katie Blood, was born in the Town of Coldspring, March 15, 1881, a daughter of Benjamin and Fannie Wright Blood. She attended Chamberlain Institute in Randolph and taught school in the Bunker Hill School, Hotchkiss Hollow and in Steamburg. Following her marriage to Mr. Arrance, she made her home on Bunker Hill for about 49 years. Mr. Arrance preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1949. Two daughters, infant Lila and Mrs. Cecil Lanning, also preceded her in death.
She truly fitted her position as "Grandma" Arrance because her family included ten living children, 35 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Steamburg and took an interest in the church and its Ladies Aid when her health permitted.
Nearly 100 friends and relatives joined in the celebration of her 80th birthday in 1961 at the home of her daughter. She had lived with the Swart family for four years before her death.
Survivors include five sons, Bert Arrance, Cherry Creek, Harry Arrance, Kennedy, Paul Arrance and Fred Arrance, Steamburg, and Leo Arrance, RD 2, Randolph; five daughters, Mrs. Nellie Fox, Portland, Mrs. Lola Michielson and Mrs. Minnie Condon, Kennedy, Mrs. Katie Carlson, Silver Creek, and Mrs. Ruth Swart, Jamestown; the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Lewis, Salamanca, and Mrs. Maybelle Butler, Dayton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. this afternoon at Myers Funeral Home, Church Street, with the Rev. Leo Hansen and the Rev. Lloyd Whitcomb, of the Steamburg EUB Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Bunker Hill Cemetery, Town of Coldspring.
