Harold (Hal) Bradley went peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 21, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. He was born Nov 11, 1933, at the family farm near Calhoun, Missouri, the oldest of four children of Noel and Opal Bradley.

After his first marriage to Barbara Varner on June 17,1953, Hal served in the US Army in Orleans, France, in 1955. Returning to the United States, he first obtained a BS in Engineering from UCLA and later an MS in Engineering from USC in 1964.

He worked long hours for the next 15 years at Hughes and later at TRW, primarily involved in large, highly classified projects. He and three other engineers founded a new company, Applied Research, Inc, and Hal was appointed President and CEO of ARI in 1978. ARI was subsequently acquired by Wyle Laboratories in El Segundo, where he became a division Vice President.

In 1978 Hal married Marilyn Bertalan. Hal enjoyed all types of sports and was proud of his two holes-in-one at the Fallbrook Golf Course. He estimated that he backpacked over 150 miles of the John Muir High Sierra Trail. Always a devoted father and grandfather, he planned yearly full-family campouts at various state and national parks.

In addition, Hal was an active member of his churches over the years, serving as Sunday school teacher, superintendent, deacon, elder, and mission committee member. He has also been an active member of Bible Study Fellowship for the past 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 30 yrs, Marilyn; three daughters, Sheryl, Marcia, Janet; former wife, Barbara; his mother, Opal, of Clinton, Missouri; brothers, Gary of Overland Park, Kansas, and Donnie of Independence, Missouri; sister, Melva of Richmond, Missouri; his Uncle Virgil (Efton), of Clinton, Missouri; and by his 10 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and steadfast friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1620 S. Stagecoach Lane, Fallbrook, CA, on Saturday, Nov 1, at 1pm. His ashes will be entombed at Point Loma Military Cemetery in San Diego.

The family requests that any memorials be donated to the American Cancer Society . Hal has lived life to the fullest and passed on content in the knowledge that he will enjoy eternity in Heaven where he waits for his entire family to join him. Published in U-T San Diego on Oct. 26, 2008
