Amos came to California in 1862 and settled at Camptonville, Nevada County, where he spent several years before moving to Colfax in Placer County. He also farmed and raised fruit in Newcastle. Per the 1870 census, Amos was residing in Rocklin and working as a carpenter. Per the 1880 census, he was living in Nine and listed as a farmer. Around 1883 he and his wife moved to Roseville for their final home. Amos suffered a stroke, and a second stroke a few days prior to his death proved fatal.
