Lisa Ann (Covas) Wasilewski, 46, of 124 Virginia Lane, Kulpmont, PA passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, after a three-and-a-half year-long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pottsville on Aug. 23, 1963, she was a daughter of Sandra (Falkie) Covas, of Mount Carmel, and the late Vincent Covas. Lisa was a 1981 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School. She attended Keystone Junior College and was a graduate of Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 1985. Lisa was married in Holy Cross Church, Mount Carmel, to Mark Wasilewski, who survives.

She was a member of Divine Redeemer Church in Mount Carmel, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mount Carmel, and the St. Pauline Visintainer Center in Kulpmont. She began her teaching career at Holy Spirit School in Mount Carmel and was a substitute teacher for many years. Lisa was employed by Mount Carmel Area School District for the past 10 years as a swimming/physical education teacher. She coached many different sports, including junior high basketball, volleyball and softball. She was an advisor for many different clubs and activities, including ski club, Powder Puff football and SADD. Lisa was well-known throughout the area for her dedication and commitment to the students at Mount Carmel Area School District. Lisa was an avid Mount Carmel Area Tornado fan and enjoyed attending all of her sons' sporting events. She touched the lives of all who knew her and leaves behind many strong friendships and fond memories.

Surviving, in additional to her mother and husband, are two sons, Marcus, a student attending the University of Maine, and Zachary, at home; one sister, Suzanne and husband Frank, of Kulpmont; a half-sister, Alyssa, of Pottsville; mother and father-in-law, Vincent and Cynthia Wasilewski, of Kulpmont; sister-in-law, Karen and husband Thomas, of Elysburg; sister-in-law, Janet and husband Vincent, of Elysburg; brother-in-law David and wife Sheri, of Kulpmont, and nine nieces and nephews, Heather and Jennifer Bolick, Kristen, Matthew and Madison Klock, Kayla and John Stanishefski, Emilee and Andrew Wasilewski. She was preceded in death by her father in 2004; maternal grandparents Victor and Aldona Falkie and paternal grandparents, Joseph Covas and Mary Covas Kryniskie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, at Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Robert Yohe as celebrant. Burial will be private at All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lisa Covas-Wasilewski Scholarship Fund, c/o Union National Bank, Third and Oak streets, Mount Carmel 17851.
