Margaret Doreen Cassidy, of Victoria Street, Westville, passed away in her 89th year, on Monday, October 15, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow..
Born in 1923, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Hunt) Fitzgerald, Westville, formerly of Newfoundland. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of sixty-two years, John George Cassidy, Sr., in November, 2008. She lived in Westville all her life.
As a young girl Margaret worked at the former Tom Roy’s store on Purvis Avenue, Westville. Following her marriage she was employed at the Picoda Dairy in Stellarton and then at Sobey’s Head Office in the Accounts Payable Dept. for twenty-two years until her retirement in 1987. Margaret was a lifelong devout member of the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, where she was baptized and married.
She is survived by her only son, John Cassidy, Jr. (Lillian), Stellarton; two grandchildren, Genesta and Jeffery, both of Calgary. She is also survived by special nephew Gary Rankin, Westville, his children Kathleen and Patrick ; brother-in-law Raymond Cassidy (Jean), New Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Kathleen and Robert Rankin, Eva and George Haley.
Visitations will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Gerald Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
