"Bernice M. Brown, 98
Helped operate family farm

Bernice M. Brown, 98, formerly of Route 4, South Whitehall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Fort Edward Nursing Home, Fort Edward, following a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 7, 1905, in Whitehall, the daughter of Frederick A. and Harmie J. (Clark) Foote. Mrs. Brown and her late husband, George C. Brown, owned and operated the family farm in Whitehall for many years. They were united in marriage on April 27, 1928. He passed away on Sept. 29, 1985. She was a lifetime member of the Whitehall Baptist Church of Whitehall. Mrs. Brown was a member of Sylvan Star-Skenesborough Chapter No. 122, Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York, the Whitehall Grange, where she received a certificate for 75 years of membership in 1994, the Whitehall Charity Club, the Glens Falls Hospital Guild and the Whitehall Baptist Church Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed playing cards with the Whitehall Card Club, needlepoint work and socializing with her friends. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a son, Glen M. Brown; a sister, Alice Moore and a brother, Francis Foote. Survivors include a son, Paul F. Brown and his wife, Lyette, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two grandsons, Glenn C. Brown and Larry P. Brown of Whitehall; six granddaughters, Stephanie L. Lawson and her husband, Dr. Michael Lawson of Wheeling, W.Va., Kathleen E. Pirtle and her husband, Terry of Tishomingo, Miss., Lori A. Dempsey and her husband, Robert of Waco, Texas, Jeri P. Santiago and her husband Gilbert of Fort Payne, Ala., Bonnie A. Brown of Whitehall and Marilyn J. Bascue and her husband, Alan of Dresden; 12 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Frank Brown of Grand Isle, VT. There will be no services and interment will be at the convenience of the family in GreenMount Cemetery, Whitehall."
