Gabby married Dorothy Joan Dysart on 03 Mar 1962 in East Alton, Illinois. They were divorced in January of 1967.

Gabby married Mrs. Mary Belle (nee Jarvis) Little on 23 Sep 1968 in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. She was the mother of 3 daughters at the time of their marriage.
Gabby was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge No. 1349. He served as governor of the lodge for a time.
Children from third marriage: 3 step-daughters.
Gabby died at Alton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. At the time of his death, he was 75 years, 1 month and 14 days old.
He was survived by his wife, Mary; 1 daughter, (Living) Bishop of Lady Lake, Florida; 3 step-daughters; 5 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill Hartnett of Hartford, Illinois; and 2 sisters, Mary Lou Worsham of Jerseyville, Illinois, and Lorene Cobeck of Alton, Illinois.
In addition to his parents, Gabby was preceded in death by 1 son, Bob Hartnett, who passed away in 1966.
Visitation was held at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River on 07 Jan 1987. The Moose Lodge performed rites at 6:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home at 10 a.m. the following morning.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society.
